Construction has begun on a new 16-bed residential crisis program unit on Sheppard Pratt’s Elkridge, Md.-based Baltimore/Washington campus.
A completion date is scheduled for summer 2026. The planned 24/7-staffed program will be designed to help individuals avoid higher levels of care such as emergency departments or inpatient units and help other county residents transition from higher levels of care sooner than they otherwise could. The program will offer expertise in serving individuals with co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders, according to a June 9 news release.
The State of Maryland has committed $2.8 million in capital grants and Howard County is providing an additional $2.25 million. The program will implement the Dual-Diagnosis Capability in Mental Health Treatment model, one of the only residential crisis programs in the state to do so.
