SAMHSA puts $74M behind community mental initiatives

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is providing around $74.4 million in grant funding for behavioral health initiatives.

According to a Nov. 16 news release, the administration will provide grant funding to four different programs: 

  • $30.4 million to comprehensive community services for children with serious emotional disturbances. 
  • $13.1 million to promote mental health and reduce suicidal behavior and substance use among American Indian and Alaska Native youth up to age 24. 
  • $15.5 million to state and community substance use prevention programs. 
  • $15.5 million to strategic prevention partnerships with local governments, universities, colleges and tribal organizations. 

“By supporting the development and delivery of community-based behavioral health services, we promote positive outcomes and advance health equity,”  HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra said in the news release.
