Pennsylvania redesignates $100M to student mental health

Pennsylvania has allocated $100 million from the state budget to support youth and student mental health needs in the state, NPR affiliate WESA reported July 25.

The funding was reallocated after it was originally designated for adult mental health needs but went unspent following legislative disagreements.

However, the reallocation has drawn criticism from legislators who provided recommendations on how to use the funds to support adult mental health last year, the report said. These recommendations included supporting the behavioral health workforce and the mental health needs of adults in the criminal justice system.
