National Fatherhood Initiative, Virginia Department of Behavioral Health partner for new program

The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services has teamed up with the National Fatherhood Initiative to implement the 24:7 Dad program in community programs across the state.

The partnership aims to connect fathers accessing behavioral health services to 24:7 Dad, an evidence-based program that provides support and resources to fathers so that they can become involved, responsible, and committed parents 24 hours a day, seven days a week, according to an April 24 news release.

The program will be run by clinicians, case managers, and peer recovery specialists throughout Virginia.

"Although co-ed parenting programs are beneficial to parents and caregivers, it is important to recognize the unique needs of fathers and allow fathers and caregivers to support each other on their parenting journey," Glenda Knight, women's services coordinator for the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, said in the release. "I firmly believe that our partnership will have a positive, lasting impact on fathers and families across Virginia."
