How sleep is affecting teens’ mental health

Eight in 10 teenagers reported not getting enough sleep, which a study from the National Sleep Foundation says is closely linked to effects on mental health.

The Sleep in America Poll surveyed 1,188 teenagers across the United States and found that nearly 75% of teenagers said that getting less sleep than usual negatively impacts their emotional well-being.

The poll also found that struggling to fall or stay asleep two or more times each week could be linked to significantly more depressive symptoms, while teenagers who reported getting the recommended eight to 10 hours of sleep have fewer depressive symptoms.
