A legislative audit found that nearly 70% of mental health providers listed in Utah insurance directories are not accepting new patients, according to an Aug. 25 CBS affiliate KMYU report.
The audit, highlighted by Rep. Steve Eliason, found that 69% of 180 contacted providers were “ghost providers” — meaning they were listed in directories but unavailable for appointments. Lawmakers are exploring ways to hold insurers accountable, Mr. Eliason said.
Utah legislators plan to further address the issue in upcoming sessions.
