Aurora (Colo.) Mental Health and Recovery will open a walk-in access facility this month that aims to alleviate the burden of mental health emergencies on local hospitals.

The Potomac Pavilion will offer same-day access to mental healthcare and substance use services, including 24/7 walk-in crisis and detox, crisis stabilization and substance use intervention, according to a Jan. 1 news release.

The facility includes separate entrances for nonemergency care and urgent crisis support. A 24-hour entrance with an ambulance bay was also designed to streamline access for first responders.

Aurora Mental Health and Recovery’s Connect to Care program — which provides same-day access to non-emergency mental healthcare — will begin seeing patients at the new facility Jan. 26. The 24-hour crisis walk-in clinic, 16-bed crisis stabilization unit and withdrawal management program will open Jan. 31.

The organization’s Victor Street location will close Jan. 26

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
