Colorado mental health facility under investigation

Johnstown (Colo.) Heights Behavioral Health is under investigation by the state's Behavioral Health Administration, a part of the Colorado Department of Human Services, ABC affiliate Denver 7 reported April 7.

The facility is under investigation for multiple complaints from former patients who allege they were kept at the center longer than necessary without seeing a physician or psychiatrist. Staff members also filed complaints that the facility was not properly staffed, according to the news outlet.

Anonymous allegations from patients claimed they were forced to sign forms to stay longer and were given medications to shorten their stay but were later told they could not leave. Some who received medications also said they did not see a physician, according to Denver 7

Additionally, B.J. Potts, a former nurse at the facility, told the news outlet that assaults occurred regularly.

Johnstown Heights' CEO did not respond to Denver 7's request for comment.
