APA Foundation welcomes its largest, most diverse class of psychiatry fellows

The American Psychiatric Association Foundation's 2023 class of psychiatry fellows is its largest and most diverse class in history.

The class consists of 116 fellows from 27 different states and 80 medical institutions. Seventy-seven percent are people of color, 61 percent are women and 24 percent are of the LGBTQ+ community, according to a May 2 news release.

"We couldn't be more excited to add this impressive class into our community of fellows and fellowship alumni at this critical time in mental health care," Rawle Andrews Jr., executive director of APAF, said in the release. "This cohort has already proven themselves to be a valuable source of talent and innovation. The future of psychiatry is in good hands."

Each fellow will be assigned to one of nine different fellowships. They will join 61 second-year fellows for a total of 177 fellows. The fellowship program provides educational, mentoring and professional development opportunities to psychiatry residents.
