Here are five athletes, leagues and teams taking action on mental health Becker’s has reported on since April 7:

  1. Two-time Olympic gold medalist and alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin posted a statement on mental health to her Instagram account on Mental Health Action Day May 18.
  2. The United Soccer League has launched a mental health platform focused on raising awareness on the importance of mental health within the communities where the league plays.
  3. Joe Burrow, quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals NFL team, has covered the cost of mental health treatment for 20 families at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
  4. Former Minnesota Vikings offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie recently hosted an event focused on mental health.
  5. Youngstown (Ohio) State University received $50,000 for new wellness programs to support the mental health of its student athletes.
