1st California county to meet inmate mental healthcare requirements

California's Riverside County fulfilled 13 medical and mental healthcare requirements for jail inmates, resulting in exemption from court and prison law office monitoring, according to an Aug. 6 report from Sierra Sun Times.

Riverside is the first California county to be released from this oversight, upholding an agreement between the county and a U.S. District Federal Court judge.

The requirements include intake screenings by registered nurses, access to confidential healthcare request forms, referrals for follow-up appointments, dedicated patient treatment areas, supply of prescription medications, use of an electronic health records system, and integrated housing for those with assistive devices, according to the report.
