The data comes from the Teen National Health Interview Survey, which pulled responses from adolescents between July 2021 and December 2022.
Here are five other survey takeaways:
- Twenty-one percent of adolescents reported experiencing symptoms of anxiety in the past two weeks.
- Seventeen percent reported experiencing symptoms of depression.
- Female adolescents were more than two times more likely as their male counterparts to report symptoms of anxiety and depression.
- LGBTQ+ adolescents had the highest rates of anxiety and depression, at 43% and 37%, respectively.
- Suicide is the second most common cause of death among adolescents, with the highest rates among American Indian and Alaska Native adolescents, followed by White adolescents.
