Utah governor signs four mental health bills into law

Gov. Spencer Cox has signed four bills related to mental health into law, State of Reform reported March 17.

House Bill 66 will amend Utah's Behavioral Health Crisis Response Commission in order to create a new crisis center and two mobile crisis outreach teams.

Senate Bill 269 will require the state's health and human services department to apply for a Medicaid waiver for people with chronic health conditions.

House Bill 403 will require schools to opt in or opt out of mental health screenings.

House Bill 159 will allow professionals with a healthcare license from a different state to offer telemedicine services in Utah. House Bill 166, which would allow mental health professionals outside of Utah to provide teletherapy, is still pending the governor's signature.

Utah currently has the highest level of mental illness in the U.S., and its suicide rate has tripled in the past year, according to the publication.
