Tennessee to open 4 crisis stabilization units and walk-in centers

The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services is set to open four crisis stabilization units and walk-in centers through early 2024.

These centers will provide an alternative to calling emergency services or going to the emergency room for those seeking behavioral healthcare, according to a March 9 news release from the department.

They will provide around-the-clock evaluation and stabilization services, along with providing an opportunity for pre-arrest diversion for law enforcement, the release said.

The centers will serve people with behavioral health needs across four counties and will be located in Murfreesboro, Clarksville, Paris and Dyersburg. The first of these centers is set to open in mid-2023.

The new locations are funded by $35 million through the American Rescue Plan Act. The funding was budgeted by the state's fiscal stimulus accountability group, Gov. Bill Lee and the Tennessee General Assembly.
