Reps. Jamie Raskin and Don Bacon introduced the Stabilization to Prevent Suicide Act, according to a Sept. 12 news release. The bill would create a new grant program to fund outpatient and virtual stabilization programs.
The proposed legislation would grant $30 million annually to the program from 2025 to 2029.
The funding is intended to bolster funding for programs that bridge the gap between crisis hotlines and inpatient hospitalization, according to the news release.
Several mental health and suicide prevention organizations endorsed the bill, including the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
