Senators introduce Better Mental Health Care for Americans Act

Senators Michael Bennett from Colorado and Ron Wyden from Oregon introduced the Better Mental Health Care for Americans Act March 22 to expand access to mental and behavioral health services for Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, and Medicaid patients.

The proposed bill aims to remove obstacles for low-income children and seniors to access mental health care by requiring parity for mental and behavioral health services in Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, and Medicaid, according to a March 22 news release from Mr. Bennett's office.

Several organizations have expressed support for the proposed bill, including the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Mental Health America, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Legal Action Center.
