A county-funded, $27.6 million inpatient psychiatric facility in Oceanside, Calif., has begun operations after providing short-term care to 31 patients.
The 16-bed unit started admitting patients Dec. 29 following staff training in November, according to a Feb. 5 news release from the county. As of early February, 10 patients were receiving care at the facility. The care team, including psychiatrists, therapists and nurses, provides patients support through therapeutic groups, health consultations and mediation sessions.
Located on the Tri-City Medical Center campus, the unit is San Diego County’s first county-funded inpatient psychiatric health facility and aims to expand access to behavioral health services in the North County region.
The facility was developed in partnership with the county and Tri-City Healthcare District, which operates Tri-City Medical Center. Operations are managed by behavioral health provider Exodus Recovery.
The inpatient unit is expected to treat 350 to 500 patients each year, with typical stays lasting five to seven days, the release said.
