North Carolina launches online registry for behavioral health beds

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services launched a registry to help lower wait times for behavioral healthcare beds in the state.

The registry, called BH SCAN, will provide a real-time list of available beds at facilities throughout the state, according to a Jan. 31 news release from the department. It also includes a search function that allows referring facilities to find an appropriate inpatient bed based on a variety of criteria, including location, acuity, demographics and commitment level.

The system is currently accessible by 99 hospitals and community-based crisis providers, according to the release. These providers include emergency departments, alcohol and drug abuse treatment centers and psychiatric inpatient hospitals.
