New Mexico Health Care Authority awarded approximately $24.5 million to expand mental health, substance use disorder treatment and crisis services across all 13 behavioral health regions under the Behavioral Health Reform and Investment Act, according to a June 30 news release.
Here are three things to know:
- The funding marks the first distribution under the Behavioral Health Reform and Investment Act, known as SB3, enacted in 2025. Early Access funding is intended to help regions begin expanding services while developing long-term regional behavioral health plans.
- Funded projects include expanding residential treatment programs in 10 regions, addiction treatment services for people involved in the criminal justice system in four regions, treatment programs for pregnant and postpartum people struggling with substance use in two regions and bolstering crisis services in all 13 regions.
- All 13 behavioral health regions have fully executed contracts, according to the release. Regional awards ranged from $1.1 million in Socorro County to $2 million across eight regions. The funding also included $1.7 million for Guadalupe County, $1.97 million for Luna County and $1.7 million for the Eastern Plains Council of Governments.
