Nationwide mental health funding bill up for reauthorization

Lawmakers are looking to reauthorize a bill that would offer behavioral health services to healthcare workers.

The Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act became law in March 2022, and bipartisan leaders in the Senate and House introduced a bill Jan. 30 that would reauthorize the legislation through 2029, according to a Jan. 30 news release from the American Hospital Association.

In addition to extending the provision of grants to assist healthcare organizations in offering behavioral health services for front-line workers, the bill would also reauthorize a national campaign focused on evidence-based solutions to address worker well-being.

If it is not reauthorized, the act would expire at the end of this year.
