On Sept. 14, a bipartisan resolution was introduced that aims to create a National Physician Suicide Awareness Day.
The resolution was sponsored by five representatives, according to a Sept. 15 American Hospital Association news release. If passed, it would recognize Sept. 17 as National Physician Suicide Awareness Day.
“Physician suicide is a tragic issue that demands greater awareness, research, and action,” Lisa Kidder Hrobsky, AHA senior vice president for advocacy and political affairs, said in the release. “By elevating this issue nationally, we can continue to reduce the stigma surrounding physician mental health. We are grateful for Representative Stevens’ leadership and commitment to supporting the well-being of the physicians and caregivers who care for patients every day.”
