These planning grants are the first to be doled out since the CCBHC program began in 2015, according to a March 16 news release from SAMHSA. The funding will allow states to prepare to join the program by supporting the development of certification and prospective payment systems and completion of the application.
The recipients are Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia.
After a year, up to 10 of the recipient states will be able to participate in the CCHBC Medicaid demonstration program, which increases access to community outpatient mental health treatment, and receive Medicaid reimbursement for the full cost of services that CCHBCs provide to ensure a comprehensive range of services, the release said.
