HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., White House Office of National Drug Control Policy Director Sara Carter, and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner released a toolkit Aug. 12 focused on addressing homelessness and addiction through treatment.
The “Best Practices Toolkit: Addressing Homelessness and Addiction Through Treatment First” outlines strategies for communities to “help Americans transition from homelessness and addiction to recovery and self-sufficiency,” according to an Aug. 12 news release from HHS.
The toolkit centers on a “Treatment First” model, which prioritizes coordinated and accountability-driven engagement in evidence-based treatment and recovery support services. It supports drug treatment and recovery efforts through the Great American Recovery Initiative.
Federal officials announced the toolkit at the San Diego Rescue Mission, which has provided meals, shelter, clothing, education and job-skills training for homeless men, women and single parents with children since 1955.
