Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont signed a bill Nov. 18 requiring insurance companies to extend autism behavioral therapy coverage to include individuals up to 26 years old.

Behavioral therapy for autism can include applied behavior analysis and cognitive behavioral therapy, along with other evidence-based treatments practiced by a licensed professional. Originally, insurers had to cover children only up to 21 years old for these treatments.

The change goes into effect Jan. 1, 2027.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
