Bipartisan Senate group reintroduces mental health workforce, student loan repayment bill

Democratic Senators Tina Smith of Minnesota and Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire and Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski reintroduced a bill aimed at strengthening the mental health workforce, according to a Feb. 24 news release.

The Mental Health Professionals Workforce Shortage Loan Repayment Act would repay up to $250,000 in eligible student loans for those who work in mental health shortage areas. It would also repay one-sixth of an individual’s eligible loans for each year of service.
