Biden wants insurers to cover more mental health services

The Biden Administration has proposed a rule that would require private insurance companies to offer the same level of coverage for mental health needs as they do for physical health needs, ABC News reported July 25.

The proposed rule will look to enforce compliance with a 2008 law that set standards for equality across mental and physical health coverage by private insurance companies, according to a fact sheet from the White House. It will also develop more reporting standards and work to get more mental health providers included in health plans' networks.

The proposed policy will undergo a 60-day public comment period before it will be implemented, although it's unclear when the policy will officially be enacted, the report said.
