Biden administration launches national strategy on mental health

The Biden administration rolled out critical actions on national mental health May 18 in recognition of Mental Health Day of Action.

These actions focus on three key areas: strengthening the mental health workforce and system capacity, connecting more Americans to mental health care and developing healthy and supportive environments, according to a May 18 news release.

Here are the 18 action items included in the strategy:

  1. Increase the size and diversity of the behavioral health workforce.
  2. Expand access to peer support.
  3. Enhance crisis responses.
  4. Expand proven models of care.
  5. Make it easier to find help.
  6. Provide mental health services in schools.
  7. Support mental health of workers.
  8. Reduce stigma for service members and veterans. 
  9. Deliver mental health services to caregivers.
  10. Reduce disparities in maternal mental health.
  11. Promote behavioral health equity. 
  12. Improve youth resilience.
  13. Promote the importance of social connection.
  14. Invest in early childhood mental health.
  15. Improve suicide prevention efforts.
  16. Launch a public call to action to support research.
  17. Improve employee wellness.
  18. Expand access to recovery.
