The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention endorsed President Joe Biden's new proposal that would enforce the requirement that private insurance companies offer the same level of coverage for mental health and physical health needs.
"Mental health parity laws have been shown to reduce suicide rates by as much as five percent," Robert Gebbia, CEO of the foundation, said in a July 26 press release from AFSP.
AFSP claims the proposed rule will help advance their vision to advance health equity, prevent suicide and expand healthcare accessibility, according to the release.
