Here are eight data points from research released by the National Association of Counties' commission on mental health and well-being May 11:
- Seventy-five percent of counties reported an increase in incidence of behavioral health conditions in the last year.
- Eighty-nine percent of counties reported an increase in incidence of behavioral health conditions in the last five years.
- Sixty-seven percent of counties reported that youth behavioral health conditions are "definitely a problem" or "very prevalent and/or severe."
- Seventy-four percent of counties listed financial costs as a barrier to expanding access to behavioral health services.
- Seventy-one percent of counties cited lack of direct service providers as a barrier for behavioral health services.
- Eighty percent reported that they incurred associated costs for behavioral health in the legal system.
- Seventy-seven percent indicated there are associated costs in law enforcement.
- Fifty-four percent reported associated costs in the health system and hospitals.
