Palmer, Alaska-based Mat-Su Regional Medical Center is planning to build a $75M freestanding behavioral health facility, Frontiersman reported July 10.
The 45-bed facility will include 27 adult beds and 18 adolescent beds. Mat-Su Regional Medical Center has submitted a certificate of need for the facility, according to the Frontiersman. The facility is expected to be completed within two to three years.
The existing psychiatric facility at Mat-Su Regional is often full, according to a statement on the hospital’s website.
“That means patients in crisis are regularly transferred to Anchorage or even out of state — putting more strain on families already under stress,” the hospital said.
The proposed facility would enable patients to receive trauma-informed care closer to home, the hospital said.
