10 states with the highest Medicaid reimbursement rates for psychiatrists

Medicaid reimbursement rates are set by individual states, and they vary wildly between states. Nebraska's Medicaid rates are the best in the nation, at 167 percent the equivalent Medicare rate and more than double the national average.

On the other end of the spectrum, Pennsylvania reimburses for Medicaid at rates less than one-fifth of Nebraska, according to a Health Affairs study published April 3.

Ten states with the highest Medicaid reimbursement rates, as a percentage of Medicare rates for the same procedure:

1. Nebraska: 167 percent

2. Alaska: 162 percent

3. Arkansas: 135 percent

4. Montana: 122 percent

5. Arizona: 101 percent

6. Oregon: 100 percent (tie)

6. New Mexico: 100 percent (tie)

6. North Dakota 100 percent (tie)

9. New Jersey: 99 percent

10. Delaware: 99 percent

Ten states with the highest Medicaid reimbursement rates, as a percentage of a weighted national average Medicaid reimbursement for the same procedure:

1. Nebraska: 234 percent

2. Alaska: 226 percent

3. Arkansas: 185 percent

4. Montana: 173 percent

5. Arizona: 147 percent

6. Delaware: 141 percent

7. Virginia: 140 percent (tie)

7. North Dakota: 140 percent (tie)

9. Oregon: 139 percent

10. New Mexico: 138 percent
