Tennessee behavioral health group taps former Walmart exec as CEO

Brian Setzer, former executive vice president of health and wellness at Walmart, has been named CEO of Nashville, Tenn.-based Newport Healthcare, effective Dec. 9.

Mr. Setzer will succeed Joe Procopio, who is retiring as CEO but will remain as chairman of the board, according to a Nov. 26 news release from the health system. In his previous role, Mr. Setzer oversaw optical, retail pharmacy and healthcare delivery operations.

During Mr. Procopio’s tenure as CEO, Newport Healthcare grew from 75 beds and three outpatient programs in 2018 to more than 800 beds and 21 outpatient programs in 2024, the release said.

Newport Healthcare is a behavioral health treatment provider for youths, young adults and families.
