Tampa General appoints Humana exec as CEO of new behavioral hospital

Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital has named Doug Leonardo as CEO of its new behavioral hospital. 

Mr. Leonardo will oversee behavioral health operations across Tampa General and manage day-to-day operations at the behavioral facility in collaboration with Lifepoint Health, according to a June 28 news release. 

TGH Behavioral Health Hospital is slated to open in 2025. The project is a joint venture between Tampa General and Brentwood, Tenn.-based Lifepoint Health. The facility will be the first freestanding academic medical behavioral health hospital in Florida.

Mr. Leonardo joins Tampa General from Humana, where he was vice president of Medicaid behavioral health. He has previously served as president and chair of the Florida Behavioral Health Association Board and is a member of the state's Commission on Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders, the release said.
