Rhode Island appoints state leader for mental health

Richard Leclerc has been approved as the new director of the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals, the Rhode Island Current reported March 14.

Mr. Leclerc, who was approved in a unanimous vote by the state senate, previously served as president and CEO of Gateway Healthcare, spending 31 years with the organization before his 2016 retirement.

He has previously chaired the Governor’s Council on Behavioral Health and most recently served as a consultant for the department, focusing on the expansion of certified community behavioral health clinics across the state, the report said.
