Psychiatrist joins Acadia Healthcare board

Patrice Harris, MD, has been appointed to Franklin, Tenn.-based Acadia Healthcare's board of directors.

Dr. Harris is board certified in psychiatry and previously served on the American Psychiatric Association board of trustees and as an APA delegate to the American Medical Association, according to an Oct. 26 news release from Acadia.

Dr. Harris was also elected as the 174th president of the AMA in 2019, becoming the first African American woman to hold the position, which she held through 2020. She has also served as chair of the AMA's Opioid Task Force.

"[Dr. Harris] is among the most respected leaders in healthcare policy and practice, and she brings deep clinical expertise in areas core to Acadia’s business, including mental health and substance abuse," Chairman of the Board of Acadia Healthcare Reeve Waud said in the release.
