James Butler, MD, PhD, was appointed as the new chief medical officer of Oceans Healthcare, based in Plano, Texas.
Oceans Healthcare provides inpatient and outpatient behavioral health treatment with a special focus on older adults and seniors. The health system comprises 36 locations, including 25 inpatient hospital campuses across the Southeast.
Dr. Butler is a practicing psychiatrist with over a decade of experience in psychiatry and medical genetics. Most recently, he served as regional medical director at Oceans, providing insight for patient care teams and improvement efforts for the company's locations in Texas.
As chief medical officer, Dr. Butler will be responsible for leading Oceans' medical teams, overseeing its hospitals and outpatient programs, and driving its mission to provide mental health services to underserved communities, according to an Aug. 14 news release Oceans Healthcare shared with Becker's.
