In his new role, Dr. Allen will lead and direct the organization’s psychiatric team and advance services offered by EDCare and its affiliated program, Athlete EDGE, which specializes in athlete-specific eating disorders, according to a July 10 news release.
Dr. Allen has extensive sport-specific mental health training. He has earned the International Olympic Committee’s Diploma in Mental Health in Elite Sport, the FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine and the International Society for Sports Psychiatry’s official sports psychiatry certification, according to the release. He also currently serves as chairman of the American Board of Sports and Performance Psychiatry.
