Westborough (Mass.) Behavioral Healthcare Hospital will open a second special needs inpatient unit for children with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities.
The unit provides children ages 5-17 with autism and co-occurring behavioral health conditions treatment in sensory-friendly spaces with a multidisciplinary team, according to a March 12 news release.
The demand for specialized mental health services has “never been greater,” Shawn Daugherty, CEO of Westborough Behavioral, said in the release.
“Expanding our special needs unit allows us to provide a safe, structured and therapeutic environment for more children who require individualized mental health support,” Mr. Daugherty said.
Westborough Behavioral is part of Corona, Calif.-based Signature Healthcare Services, which operates 19 behavioral health hospitals in five states.
