York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health launched a 24-hour operated behavioral health walk-in crisis center April 27.

The center aims to serve as an alternative to emergency department visits with on-site evaluations, stabilization services and referrals for ongoing care, according to an April 27 news release from the system. It provides care for individuals of all ages experiencing acute mental, emotional or behavioral health needs, including, same-day assessments and short-term treatment in a therapeutic environment.

A multidisciplinary team — including licensed clinicians, nurses and peer support staff — delivers care at the site. Patients requiring higher levels of medical attention are transferred to a hospital emergency department, according to the release.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
