UVA Children's, Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital partner to expand behavioral health services

Charlottesville, Va.-based UVA Children's Hospital has teamed up with Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, also in Charlottesville, to expand pediatric behavioral healthcare and neurodevelopmental care with a new outpatient clinic.

The UVA Children's Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Health Care Clinic will provide care regardless of a family's ability to pay or insurance coverage, according to a March 31 news release from UVA Health. It will be staffed by UVA providers and was made possible by an investment from Sentara Martha and other donors.

The clinic triples the number of pediatric mental health providers at UVA from six to 18 providers. Staff will include developmental pediatricians, pediatric psychologists, child psychiatrists and integrative medicine specialists.

It will also have interpreters for non-English-speaking patients and families.

The facility will offer therapy, medication management for mental illnesses, autism and developmental disability care, group therapy, telehealth therapy, and it will have specially designed rooms for interactive therapy between parents and their children. Yoga, mindfulness and meditation will also be offered at the clinic.
