MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., a member of Valhalla, N.Y.-based Westchester Medical Center Health Network, has renovated its inpatient behavioral health unit to increase capacity to 60 beds.
Dutchess County supported the project with a $3 million investment, first allocated in 2022 to help establish a Behavioral Health Center of Excellence at the hospital, according to a May 1 hospital news release.
The project increased inpatient capacity from 40 beds and redesigned patient rooms and common areas to include more natural light, modernized materials aimed at reducing stress, a dedicated patient comfort room, expanded group therapy space, and upgraded safety and security features. The unit’s opening is contingent on final regulatory approvals.
Across Dutchess and Ulster counties, Westchester Medical Center Health Network now operates 80 inpatient behavioral health beds, including 20 beds restored in December 2024 at HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston, N.Y.
The network is a 1,700-bed healthcare system serving nearly 2.5 million residents across more than 6,000 square miles. The system includes nine hospitals on seven campuses and 60 ambulatory care sites, employs more than 13,000 people and has nearly 3,000 attending physicians who see nearly 300,000 unique patients every year, according to the release.
