Hackensack Meridian opens 81-bed behavioral clinic at New Jersey hospital

Hackensack Meridian Health has expanded and begun operating an 81-bed behavioral health unit at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy, N.J.

The Carrier Behavioral Health clinic expanded from 24 beds and is part of Hackensack's $24 million investment into the local community, according to a Sept. 26 news release from the Edison, N.J.-based health system.

"Raritan Bay Medical Center has provided high quality, compassionate care to the Perth Amboy community for more than a century," Robert Garrett, CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health, said. "The need for behavioral health services in our communities is greater than ever. This investment will serve our patients now and into the future."

Over the summer, the upgraded facility began offering electroconvulsive therapy for patients with  treatment resistant depression and other psychiatric disorders.

Raritan Bay's other behavioral health services include specialized programs and units for adults, older adults, neuromodulation services and care for individuals with both mental health and substance use disorder diagnoses.
