Digital health funding down 57%: what to know

Investments in digital health companies dropped from $59.7 billion in 2021 to $25.9 billion in 2022 — a decrease of 57 percent — according to a report published by business intelligence company CB Insights.

The 2022 "State of Digital Health" report, published Jan. 24, aggregated data from federal and state regulatory filings, independent confirmation with firms or investors; press releases and other business media sources. The full methodology can be found here

Here are four more of the report's findings:

1. There were a total of 2,122 digital health company deals in 2022, a drop of 33 percent from 3,160 deals in 2021.

2. Investments in mental health technology companies went from $5.5 billion in 2021 to $2.6 billion in 2022, a decrease of 53 percent. 

3. Mental health technology companies took part in 289 deals in 2022, compared to 354 in 2021.

4. In the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2022, there were 57 deals involving behavioral health technology companies with a total value of $500 million, the lowest of any quarter since 2018.
