The funds will be dispersed through the department’s mentored internship programs among 39 nonprofit behavioral health providers and tribal organizations throughout the state, according to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s website April 25.
Each will receive $500,000 to bolster their substance use disorder workforce and to expand prevention, treatment and recovery skills for those working with individuals with or at risk of developing an opioid use disorder.
There are now a total of 163 organizations that have received funding through this program, which joins students 18 years of age and older with internship and work experience opportunities and is part of the state’s behavioral health workforce development initiative.
