Medford, Mass.-based Author Health, a provider of mental health and dementia care services for Medicare, Medicare Advantage and Special Needs Plan recipients, is expanding senior care into Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
The provider serves patients through a virtual-first model that pairs psychiatry, therapy and care management with primary care integration, according to a July 1 news release from Author Health. The expansion targets a growing behavioral health provider shortage in both states: Pennsylvania has 72% of the psychiatrists it needs today, a figure projected to fall to 61% by 2030, while New Jersey’s psychiatrist supply is expected to drop to 59% of demand by 2030.
Author Health already operates in Florida, Texas, Indiana, Illinois and Arizona, reporting a 60% initial patient engagement rate, an 80% monthly retention rate and clinically significant improvement in more than 70% of patients with severe conditions, according to company data. The move follows recent launches in Indiana, Illinois and Arizona earlier this year.
Founded in 2022, Author Health now operates in seven states and partners with health plans and provider groups to deliver integrated behavioral healthcare aimed at reducing avoidable emergency department visits and inpatient stays, according to the release.
