Bradford, Vt.-based Valley Vista has opened 27 additional residential treatment beds at its facility in Vergennes, Vt., in partnership with the Vermont Department of Health.

The expansion raises the total number of low-level residential treatment beds in the state from 28 to 55, according to a Dec. 18 news release. Before the expansion, all 28 beds were operated by Recovery House in Rutland, Vt. With the addition, Vermont will have 164 beds across all levels of residential substance use disorder treatment, according to the state.

The additional beds are designed for adults 18 and older, and will offer services such as individual and group counseling, peer support, life-skills development, case management, medications for substance use disorders, discharge planning, and connections to housing and employment resources.

Kevin Hamel, BSN, RN, vice president of medical and clinical services at Valley Vista, said the new facility will help ensure access to responsive, high-quality substance use disorder treatment services.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
