U.S. counties with highest nonfatal opioid overdose rates

The National Emergency Services Information System has released a report showing the national nonfatal opioid overdose rates from data collected between March 2022 and March 2023.

The U.S. counties and independent cities with the highest rates of nonfatal opioid overdose rates are as follows:

  1. Menominee County, Wis.
  2. Roanoke, Va.
  3. Mahnomen County, Minn.
  4. Jasper County, S.C.
  5. Walker County, Ala.
  6. Portsmouth, Va. 
  7. Campbell County, Tenn.
  8. Orleans County, La.
  9. Bristol, Va. 
  10. Carrol County, Ky.
