New York City.-based NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi unveiled a 15-piece art exhibit at its Comprehensive Addiction Treatment Center (CATC). The exhibit is intended to promote reflection and reduce stress for patients and staff.
The exhibit — featuring works by Jim Dine, Charles Ford, Michael Manning and Gilbert Michaud — builds on the hospital’s art immersion program. The program includes group sessions, museum visits and follow-up discussions in partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals Arts in Medicine and the National Guild for Community Arts Education, according to an Aug. 5 news release from the system. More than two dozen CATC patients have participated in visits to the Guggenheim and Frick museums, and 100% said they found the experience rewarding and wanted to attend future visits.
CATC is also helping patients obtain NYC IDs for free or discounted admission to community art exhibits. Hospital leaders said participants reported greater appreciation for art as a source of healing and social connection, while other patients have expressed interest in joining future programs.
