Kansas group expands substance use disorder treatment options

Hays, Kan.-based High Plains Mental Health Center has expanded its treatment program for substance use disorders.

The center will now offer outpatient medication assisted treatment in addition to clinical therapy and has hired full-time telehealth psychiatrist Lee Smith, MD, to oversee the treatment program, according to a Nov. 17 news release published in the Hays Post.

The medication assisted treatment program offers an integrated treatment option for patients suffering from substance use disorders and mental illness. Patients can access the program through any of High Plains’ full-time Kansas clinics in Hays, Osborne, Norton, Phillipsburg, Colby and Goodland.
