Honolulu addiction treatment center to pay $450K for illegal pay practices

Honolulu-based Kline Welsh Behavioral Health Foundation, which operates Sand Island Treatment Center, has been ordered to pay $451,898 in back wages to 34 staff members.

The Labor Department found that the organization was not paying minimum wage or overtime, even when employees worked between 41 and 63 hours a week, and in some cases only paid staff members only $400 a month, according to a March 16 release from the department.

Kline Welsh will also have to pay $10,000 in civil money penalties and submit a compliance action plan to the Wage and Hour Division of the Labor Department.
